Around five years ago, actor Jim Belushi discreetly put his Los Angeles mansion, Villa Burlingame, on the market. The Brentwood property was listed on whisper for $42 million. Following that, open market listings began at $38.5 million, with the mansion’s price subsequently falling to $30 million in 2018 and $28 million in 2019, before reestablishing itself at $33.5 million this spring. This October, the home was eventually sold; it closed at a price of $30 million.
The property was custom-built by Belushi and his wife Jennifer. They paid $8.3 million for the parcel in 2007 and commissioned architect Oscar Shamamian to design the estate. The 14,000-square-foot Tuscan-inspired home was completed in 2010 after a two-year construction period.
All of the architecture, materials, and architectural flourishes suggest an older villa – one that has aged exceptionally well. A tour of the house will reveal milled plaster ceilings, limestone flooring, stucco, and a variety of pendant and lantern light fixtures (but not a single recessed unit). The master bedroom is smaller than one might imagine; the sensible proportions are accentuated by a cozy fireplace and a dramatic hipped ceiling finished in the millwork pattern found throughout the home.
The residence features six bedrooms and eleven baths, as well as a library, family room, media room, and catering-ready kitchen. The grounds comprise 1.31 acres and feature spacious lawns, loggias topped with ivy-covered pergolas, water features, patios, and walking paths that wind through gardens and beneath an arbor.
